Third and Fourth Report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (1999-2009)

Upon ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the contracting states undertook to submit regular reports on their progress in implementing the UN CRC in their respective countries. The National Coalition appended the views of civil society to the Federal Government's report as the supplemental report submitted by the National Coalition reflected the involvement of more than 100 member organisations and that of children and adolescents.

Need for action in the field of children’s rights

There is room for criticism in all areas, emphasised Prof. Jörg Maywald, speaker for the National Coalition. The National Coalition address the necessary consequences of the removal of restrictions in the laws affecting foreign persons and asylum seekers. In addition, the speaker of the National Coalition fundamentally express criticism of the type or reporting submitted by the Federal Republic of Germany that recalled more of a 'social report' lacking a target/actual comparison. According to the speaker, the report needs to address progress and barriers. The National Coalition also criticised the circumstance that the obligation to implement children’s rights and the best interests of the child are still not integrated in to the constitution.
