Submit Reports to the United Nations
By adopting the Convention, Germany has undertaken to submit a report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child on the progress and difficulties in implementing the Convention. The first report is due in two years and reports are due every five years thereafter. (Art. 44).
The opinions of nongovernmental organisations are put before the United Nations in the form of a parallel report (also referred to as the 'shadow report' or the 'alternative report'). In Germany, approximately 40 organisations came together in May 1995 for this purpose to officially establish the National Coalition as part of the first open forum on the topic of Realising Children's Rights.
